QUEENSLAND POOL SAFETY

Pool Safety for Homeowners

Bought a home with a pool? Selling, renting, renovating or dealing with council?

Get clear answers, understand your obligations and find out what to do next.

Our role

Protecting pool owners. Providing peace of mind.

  • ✓ Check the entire barrier against Queensland requirements.
  • ✓ Look for ways children could gain unsupervised access, even without permission.
  • ✓ Explain issues clearly, without unnecessary jargon.
  • ✓ Help find practical, cost-effective ways to comply.

Four things worth knowing

2-year certificates

A Form 23 lasts 2 years for non-shared pools.

No children? Same rules.

Barriers help prevent any young child gaining unsupervised access.

Compliance is ongoing

Keep gates self-closing, CPR signs in place and fencing free of climbing hazards.

A certificate isn't a guarantee

It confirms compliance at inspection. It does not remove ongoing responsibilities or liability.

What's your situation?

🏠 Bought a home without a certificate?

You have 90 days from settlement to obtain one. Don't delay: a failed inspection won't extend the deadline.

→ Book an inspection

📋 Selling: do I need a certificate?

You can sell without one, but must correctly disclose this in Form 2 and provide a Form 36. Getting certified early may avoid contract hassles.

→ Get organised early

🔍 Unhappy with another inspection?

If you've received a Form 26, you'll need QBCC's written approval to change inspectors within the 3-month reinspection period.

→ Read QBCC guidance

📅 Passed years ago. Will it pass again?

Possibly. But gates wear, trees grow and barriers change. An old certificate isn't a guarantee of today's compliance.

→ Arrange a fresh check

🔑 Renting out a home or a room?

For rental use, keep your certificate current. Non-shared pool certificates last 2 years; book ahead of expiry.

→ Book your inspection

🛠 Planning landscaping or fence changes?

Speak to us before starting. An onsite consultation can save you costly rework and help you choose a compliant design.

→ Ask about a consultation

📨 Council asked for a certificate?

Act promptly. We can assess the barrier, explain repairs and help you work towards compliance.

→ Check availability

💬 Worried your fence won't pass?

Don't put it off. There is usually a workable solution, and we'll help you understand the options.

→ Let's get it sorted

Quick answers

Do I need to be home?

No. Just ensure we can access the pool area and any dogs are securely contained.

What if my barrier doesn't pass?

We'll explain the issues, provide the required documentation and help you understand the repair options and reinspection process.

How do I check my certificate?

You can check the property's certificate status on the QBCC pool register.

CHECK YOUR AREA & AVAILABILITY

General Queensland guidance only. Requirements depend on the property, its use and the applicable pool safety standard. An inspection documents the barrier's condition at the time of assessment; ongoing maintenance remains important.
